Who serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations?

The senior enlisted advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations is the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON). This is the single, top-ranked enlisted leader in the Navy who serves as the primary liaison between enlisted sailors and Navy leadership. The MCPON counsels the CNO on matters affecting the enlisted force—such as readiness, quality of life, training, and morale—and helps shape policies and programs that impact sailors and their families. Fleet Master Chief Petty Officer and Command Master Chief Petty Officer are important senior enlisted roles as well, but they serve within their specific fleets or commands and do not hold the overall advising role to the CNO. Master Chief Petty Officer is a rank, not a dedicated advisory billet, though many hold that rank.
